第一章 狭小房间
Winston Smith stood up and walked to the window. It was an early November afternoon, and the sky was a dirty, greyish黄色 from the smog. He pulled back the heavy velvet curtains, exposing the grim view of the Ministry of Truth's East Wing.
The room was small, barely more than a cubicle. A single bed, a desk, and a small shelf with a few books – that was all. Winston hated this room. It was like a cage, but he had no intention of escaping. Not yet, at least.
He sat at the desk and picked up the thin, worn notebook he always kept by his side. The cover was a cheap, dark leather that had seen better days. Inside, the pages were filled with his thoughts, his dreams, his forbidden memories of the past. He had only been allowed to keep it for a few months now, ever since Julia had given it to him.
Winston scribbled in the notebook, his hand writing quickly, almost desperately. He wrote about the Party, about Big Brother, about the telescreens that monitored every move, every thought. He wrote about the fear, the oppression, the constant struggle for survival.
