林小满clusped her hands tightly in her lap, staring blankly out the train window. The rain had been falling for what felt like hours, washing the city lights into blurry streaks of color. She was on her way back to the city, away from the small town where she'd spent the past few months escaping her life after her parents' divorce.

"Miss, are you alright?" A soft voice broke into her thoughts. She looked up to see an elderly conductor approaching her with a water bottle.

"Thanks," she murmured, taking the offered bottle. The man smiled warmly before moving on to the next carriage.

As the conductor walked away, a sudden loud bang made everyone in the carriage jump. The train had hit something, and the sudden impact jolted the passengers violently. Screams and shouts filled the air as the train screeched to a halt, smoke pouring out from under the carriage.

"Oh my god, what happened?" someone nearby shouted.

"I think we've had a crash," another passenger added, sounding panicky.
